Our Club's 2nd Anti A(H1N1) Influenza Pandemic Project was held at the SRK St. Xavier in Ayer Itam this morning. We presented free face masks, thermometer strips and hand sanitisers to the school's population of some 800 primary students. Present at the handing over ceremony was Organising Chairperson, Past President R. Ganeson and Lion Monica Sio together with Club President Alan Cheah. The items were handed over to the school's Headmaster Mr. Chuah at the school's morning assembly in the school hall.

Seventy One students from eleven schools participated in our Clubs' Peace Poster Contest held at the school hall of SJK(C) Kwong Min Caw. II, Jalan Paya Terubong, Penang. The theme for this year was "The Power of Peace".
The judges' panel comprising Past Council Chairman Allan Cheah and local artists Cheng Yeow Chye and Choy Kim Hong had a difficult time deciding the winners.
All participants of the event went home winners as each and everyone of them won at least a prize in the lucky draw held in conjunction with the contest. For the contest winners, they were rewarded with cash prizes and trophies for their efforts.
Congratulations to the organising committee under the leadership of Charter President Danny Lim for a very successful project.

Region 1 Project - International Coastal Cleanup Project

Our Club participated in an Environmental Project undertaken by Region One Lions and Leos Clubs - International Coastal Cleanup of Telok Aling Beach @ Muka Head. Our members who participated with their friends were 2nd Vice President Lion Tina Tan, Lion Gertrude Soong and Lion Monica Sio. Some 160 Lions and Leos joined in to clean up two beaches along the way to Muka Head.

2009-2010 LIONS INTERNATIONAL PEACE POSTER CONTEST


Our Club's Peace Poster drawing Contest will be held on 27 September 2009 (Sunday) at the school hall of SRJK(C) Kwong Min Caw. II, Jalan Paya Terubong, Penang from 8.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
Organising Chairperson for the contest, Charter President Danny Lim is working very hard and till now has received seventy-one (71) entries from eleven (11) schools. The schools participating in this contest are: SRK(C) Kwong Min II; SMJK Chung Ling; SMJK Perempuan Cina; SMJK Union; SMJK Heng Ee; SRK(C) Sum Sun; SMJK(C) Chung Hwa Confucian; SJK(C) Chiao Nan; SJK(C) Shang Wu; SK Perempuan Methodist and SJK(C) Sin Kang. The theme for this year's contest is "The Power of Peace".
Four(4) judges have been invited to judge the contest amongst whom are our very own Past Council Chairman Allan Cheah and Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat besides two other invited judges.
Cash prizes await the winners - RM150 (1st prize); RM120 (2nd prize); RM80 (3rd prize) and RM20 (consolation x 5 winners). A lucky draw also awaits all participants...everyone will walk away a "winner" at this contest.

Dancing Class...



A special social activity has just been started for club members... DANCING CLASS!
This class is being held at the Penang Squash Centre, Bukit Dumbar, Penang on Thursdays from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Currently "cha cha" is being taught by a professional dance tutor. Members interested can contact 2nd Vice President Lion Tina Tan (012-4286835) or Past President May Cheah (012-4253386) for more information. The class needs more men to make it interesting. Come on LIONS...lets dance...1, 2, cha cha cha...

International Coastal Cleanup Project

Region One will be organising a joint Lions/Leo participation in the International Coastal Cleanup Project jointly with Universiti Sains Malaysia ON 26 September 2009. The beaches to be cleaned are Pantai Pasir Pandak dan Pantai Telok Aling. Lions interested to participate are requested to contact Regional Committee Chairperson (R1) for Environmental Projects, Lion Tina Tan (012-4286835).
For those who have confirmed their participation, please be reminded that those requiring transportation must be at Gurney Plaza (Gurney Drive entrance) by. 7.15 a.m. (sharp). Participants are reuired to wear Lions/Leos Club T-Shirt displaying the Lions/Leos logo with long pants; Sports shoes and Cap; Vest and to apply sun block/mosquito repellent (advised). Organisers will supplying bread & water (?) to all participants.

Membership Growth

OCTOBER is Lions Clubs International's "Membership Growth Month". In line with International President Eberhard Wirf's theme of "Move to Grow" and our District Governor Choong Kwei Loi's theme of "Growth with Actions", the emphasis this fiscal year is on "Growth" ... membership growth, club growth, club extension, personal growth etc, etc.
Our Club has targetted a membership growth of 10% this fiscal year and all members are encouraged to recruit their friends to join us in service to our community. Please contact our 2nd Vice President, Lion Tina Tan for recruitment purposes. Membership applications must be submitted to Lion Tina (012-4286835)by end of September to be tabled for approval by the next BOD meeting scheduled on 7 October 2009.
This coming October, we will be organising a Deepavali Social cum Induction (of new members) into the club's den. This event is tentatively scheduled for 25 October (Sunday) at a venue to be confirmed. Organising Chairperson for this event is Past President R. Ganeson (016-4937856).

49th Multiple District 308 Convention, 2011


Our Club has formally endorsed Region One's bid to host the 49th Multiple District 308 Convention, 2011. By way of an undertaking letter to the Chairperson (Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat), we have agreed to actively support and participate in the Organising Committee by taking up a share (RM1,000.00) and thereinafter play an active role in the Organising Committee should Penang be awarded the rights to host the Convention. The last time Penang hosted the Convention was in April 2003 (the 41st MD 308 Convention) and the COCC was none other than our very own Past Council Chairman Allan Cheah.

Organising Chairperson PP R. Ganeson, 2nd VP Lion Tina Tan, Leo Advisor PP May Cheah and President Alan Cheah represented the Club to hand over the items to the school Principal, Puan Ong.

Poor Family Project

Project Organising Chairperson PP Quah Bah Aik and Club members visited our adopted poor family at Weld Quay to deliver daily necessities to them. Accompanying PP Quah were President Alan and Lady Esther, 2nd VP Tina Tan, CP Danny and Lady Meng Yik and their daughter Jade.

Bid for 49th MD Convention 2011


10 September 2009 ...
Region One Clubs unanimously agreed to bid for the opportunity to organise and host the 49th Multiple District Convention in 2011 at a round table meeting held at the Continental Hotel, Penang road last night.
LCGTM leads again as our very own Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat was unanimously elected as Chairperson to prepare and launch Region One's bid. "CONGRATULATIONS" to PDG Dato' Khoo Kay Huat and Lions Club of George Town Mutiara! MUTIARA ... ROAR!

Fighting the A(H1N1) Influenza

Together with the Leo Club of SMK Sacred Heart, the Lions of George Town Mutiara will be embarking on a health project on 14 September 2009 (Monday). The Club will donate free face masks, thermometer strips and hand sanitizers to the SMJK(C) Sacred Heart in Balik Pulau. The school has a population of some 1,400 students.
Lions will meet at 7.00 a.m. on 14 September 2009 (Monday) at the car park in front of the school before proceeding to a simple handing over ceremony during the school's assembly.

3rd Board of Director's Meeting...

Dateline: 02 September 2009...

Our Board of Directors held its third meeting at the Clubhouse, Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang, Jalan Utama, Pulau Pinang.

Among the key decisions unanimously endorsed by the meeting were:
1. To endorse Region 1's bid to host the 49th Multiple District Convention, 2011 in Penang.
2. To propose that Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat be appointed as the Convention Organising Chairperson.

The last time Penang hosted the Multiple District Convention was in 2003 (41st Convention) and
the COC for that convention then was, the then Past District Governor (now Past Council Chairperson) Allan Cheah.

At the time of writing, it is understood that there are two other proposals to host the convention - one on the island of Langkawi, Kedah and the other in Ipoh City.

May the best bid win and make our District proud.

Region 1 Joint Installation of LEO Clubs.

Our Club's sponsored Leo Clubs - the Omega Leo Club of George Town Mutiara and the Alpha Leo Club of SMK Sacred Heart participated in the Region 1 Joint Installation of Leo Clubs held at the Han Chiang School Hall.
Guest of Honour at this Joint Installation was District Governor Choong Kwei Loi whilst District Chairperson for Leos, Lion Alan Thoo installed the newly elected Leo Club Officers. Regional Committee Chairperson (Region 1) for Leos, Lion Ong Lai Peng inducted the new Leos.
Representing the Club to witness the occasion was President Alan, Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat, 1st VP Lion Danny Ooi, 2nd VP RCC Tina Tan and Omega Leo Advisor PP May Cheah.
