Click on the "group" icon and search for "Lions Club of George Town Mutiara". To date, the group has attrached 38 members from Lions and friends using Facebook. Mutiara Lions are encouraged to join the group as soon as possible.

Haiti Earthquake Relief

District 308 B2 has launched an initiative to assist the peoples of Haiti. A Charity Fund Raising dinner will be held on 02 April 2010  (Friday) at the Restoran Hee Lai Ton (SK) at 7.00 p.m. The 100 table dinner is wholly sponsored by Restoran Hee Lai Ton and all proceeds from this dinner will be channelled to the Haiti Earthquake Relief. The target is to raise RM100,000.00 to help the Haitian people in their time of need. Cost of the dinner is RM100.00 per person or RM1,000.00 per table. Lions interested to support or participate in this dinner, kindly contact the Club President.

Nomination of Club Officers for FY 2010-2011

Nomination Forms have been issued and circulated to all members by the Club's Nomination Chairperson. Closing date for submission is on 05 February 2010. Club's nomination meeting will be held on 08 February 2010 after the Club's Business meeting at the Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang, Penang.

Lions are requested to send their nomination forms to the residence of the nomination chairperson using their own envelopes.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LION GERTRUDE SOONG

MANY HAPPY RETURNS and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lion Gertrude and PP Tan Ewe Chuan.

Club members celebrated the birthday of Lion Gertrude after the 7th Business Meeting held on 11 January 2010. Lion Gertrude's birthday is on 13 January 2010 whilst PP Tan's is on 30 January. Unfortunately PP Tan could not join in the celebrations due to prior commitments.

It's that time of the year ...

As the current fiscal year (2009-2010) approches its 3/4 mark, the Changing of the Guards is upon us. Nomination of Club Officers for the next fiscal year will be held on 08 February 2010. Our Club's nominating officer is IPP Emery Cheah and she will be sending out the nomination forms to all members of the Club soon. All members are encouraged to exercise their democratic right to choose the Club's leadership for the next term. Positions available are for Club President, Club Secretary, Club Treasurer, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, 3rd Vice President, Tail Twister, Club Tamer and three 2 year Directors. The IPP and three 1 year Directors are automatic (current President becomes the IPP and current 2 year Directors become 1 year Directors).

So Mutiara Lions, when the time comes, please choose wisely to ensure that the PEARL continues to shine ever brightly in the District.

Region 1 Lions Idol singing Competition 2010

Our Club will be represented by 4 singers in  the coming Region 1 Lions Idol Singing competition to be held on 10 January 2010. Our crooners are 2VP Lion Tina Tan, PP Teng Eng Teik, PP Ooi Bi Bi and Lion Lim Bee Tin. The competition will be held at the Multi Purpose Hall of the Penang Swimming Club in Tanjung Bungah, Penang. Guest of Honour is LCI's International Director Hajjah Ellis Suriyati.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

 2010 IS UPON US ...

Mutiara Lions ushered in the new year with a great Charity Countdown Party at the Eastin Hotel, Penang. With strong support from members, Lions, Leos, Friends of Lions and many other supporters, the event was one of the many success stories of the club. 320 people filled the Eastin Ballroom to capacity and partied right up to 2.00 a.m.

It was a party which was graced by the Hon'ble Prof. Dr. P Ramasamy, Penang's Deputy Chief Minister II who pledged RM2,000.00 in support of the Club's project funds. The evening's festivities kicked off with the Club President's address followed by a speech by Y.B. Dr. Ramasamy. Food was served immediately after that and the party was on!

DJ Mohan had the party goers in the right mood with the right choice of music - cha cha, twist, rock and roll, samba, the lambada, waltz and many more. Games introduced by PP May Cheah including ice breakers brought the dance floor to life throughout the entire evening.

Our congratulations to PP Ganeson and his super hardworking team for a fantastic job in organising this party. Lions from as far south as Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh attended this party in support of the Club and its humanitarian projects. The raffle draw was another success with some 400 tickets sold to the attendees.
