HAPPY BIRTHDAY LION TINA TAN!

Mutiara Lions celebrated the birthday of Incoming President Lion Tina Tan during a celebratory dinner at the Hainanese Delights Restaurant at Hotel 1926 recently.
Lion Tina celebrated her birthday on 08 June 2010 and the club members threw her a belated birthday bash.

CHANGING OF THE GUARDS!

President Elect Tina Tan chaired her pre-board meeting at the Clubhouse on 21 June 2009 where she outlined her plans and vision for the coming fiscal year 2010-2011.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Alan Cheah symbolically handed over the office of the President to President-Elect Tina Tan with a simple passing over of the gavel.The simple ceremony was witnessed by other members of the Board of Directors for FY 2010-2011.

MUTIARA LIONS TO SET UP LANGUAGE LABORATORY

The Lions Club of George Town Mutiara will set up a Language Laboratory at the SJK(C) Kong Min Cawangan 2 at Paya Terubong. The purpose of the Language Laboratory will enable the school to comply with the Ministry of Education's Transformation Programme whereby there will be a change in language teaching and learning. The laboratory will facilitate and enhance teaching and learning processes in the near future and will benefit the school's 1,100 students.
During the Club's 22nd Charter Anniversary Celebrations on 15 May 2010, Club President Alan Cheah presented a mock cheque to the school's Headmaster Mr. Tan Jooi Kok. The presentation was witnessed by LCI's International Director Hajjah Ellis Suriyati, District Governor Choong Kwei Loi, Past Council Chairpersons Patrick Chew and Allan Cheah and the school's PTA Chairman. The laboratory is expected to be officially launched during the third week of June.

HAPPY 22nd CHARTER ANNIVERSARY...

The Lions Club of George Town Mutiara officially celebrated her 22nd Charter Anniversary in style on 15 May 2010 at the Eastin Ballroom, Eastin Hotel, Penang with an elaborate but simple dinner function.
Guest of Honour was District 308B2's District Governor Choong Kwei Loi with LCI's International Director Hajjah Ellis Suriyati and Pantai Hospital Penang's Director Dato' Dr. Godrey Geh and CEO Mr. Lai Yeu Kong as special Guests. Also in attendance were Past Council Chairperson Patrick Chew, Immediate Past District Governor Kenneth Saw & Lady Girlie, 2nd Vice District Governor Shawn Lee, Past District Governor Jason Kon from District 308B1, Past District Governor Woon Fong Piew and Past District Governor Philip Ooi.
The main highlights of the evening was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Pantai Hospital Penang for the setting up of a joint medical fund to help needy medical patients and a mock cheque presentation to the SJK(C) Kong Min Caw. II to set up a language laboratory for the school.
The usual highlights of any lions anniversary celebrations was the presentation of awards to lions who have supported and served the Club during the fiscal year. Top awards went to PCC Allan Cheah who was awarded the President's Distinguished Service Award whilst the Lion of the Year award went to Charter President Danny Lim.
Lions from other districts were also present to support the function, notably members from the Lions Club of Kota Budaya led by President Khor Teck Tun, Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur City led by President Stella Foo, Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Capital led by President Aishah Ismail (all from District 308 B1), Lions Club of Petaling Metro led by Past President Shirley Koh and Lions Club of Petaling Jaya Mutiara.

New GTM Medical Fund to help the needy.

The Lions Club of George Town Mutiara (LCGTM) in smart partnership with Pantai Hospital Penang (PHP) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 15 June 2010 to set up a joint GTM/PHP medical fund called the "Lions GTM Pantai Penang Medical Fund". All contributions to the fund of RM1,000.00 and above are "tax-exempt". The initial target is to raise RM200,000.00 to enable the fund to substantially help the poor and needy medical patients of our community.
The purpose of this fund is to assist the needy of our community to obtain expensive medical treatment at the hospital. Both parties have initially contributed RM10,000.00 each for the fund. Medical procedures like cataract surgery, cardiac surgery, neuro surgery and other expensive medical procedures except gynaelogical and sinus washouts will be considered. All applications will however be decided on a case by case basis.
The Lions GTM Pantai Penang Medical Fund committee is chaired by PDG Dato' Khoo Kay Huat with PCC Allan Cheah, PP Quah Bah Aik and President Alan Cheah representing the Club and Mr. Lai Yeu Kong (CEO), Mr. Pan Wen Lek, Mr. Ganesh Rao and Mr. Raymond representing Pantai Hospital Penang.
The signing of the milestone MoU was witnessed by LCI's International Director Hajjah Ellis Suriyati and District 308B2 District Governor Choong Kwei Loi. International Director Hajjah Ellis Suriyati donated RM1,000.00 to the fund after the signing ceremony whilst the sister club of LCGTM, the Lions Club of Kota Budaya donated RM500.00.

WELCOME... Lion Koay Poy Teik



The membership of the Club welcomes to its fold a new lion in LION KOAY POY TEIK. Lion Koay was officially inducted by District Governor Choong Kwei Loi on 15 May 2010 in the presence of Club members and numerous Lions dignitaries including LCI's International Director Hajjah Ellis Suriyati who later presented Lion Koay with an International President's Pin. A full time civil servant, Lion Koay is the headmaster of SJKC Shang Wu in Penang and is a man of many talents beinbg actively involved in chinese cultural dancing activities. Lion Koay is married to Lady Tan Ai Choo who is also a teacher.
