SIGHT FIRST Project

Fifty students from the SRJK(C) Shang Wu and SK. St. Xaviers, Penang were the beneficiaries of the Club's Sight First Project organised by 3rd Vice President Gertrude Soong yesterday. This is the Club's first Sight First project this fiscal year and was ably organised by Lion Gertrude assisted by Lion Koay Poy Teik. The Lions with the assistance of the Headmasters and faculty members of both schools shortlisted fifty students from amongst the population of both schools to receive free spectacles donated by Juara Optics in Penang.

The students were then sent to Juara Optics to have their eyes examined and also to choose the spectacle frame of their choice at the shop.

Present to witness the project were President Tina Tan, Past District Governor Khoo Kay Huat and Secretary Mark Labrooy together with Lion Koay Poy Teik and Mr. Chuah Eng Keat (Headmaster of SK St. Xavier, Penang).

LIONS CLUB OF GEORGE TOWN MUTIARA RECOGNISED BY LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL

LCGTM's Suara Mutiara

The Lions Club of George Town Mutiara was recognised internationally and received a Honorable Mention Certificate for her Newsletter in the Lions Clubs International Contest.

The results of the contest was announced during the 2010 Lions Clubs International Convention in Sydney, Australia. The hundreds of contest entries were judged by Lions Clubs International Board members based on quality and design. The results appeared on the Lions Online Convention and will appear in a future issue of Lion Magazine.

"We are extremely proud that our entry was chosen out of so many from around the world and that we can share this accomplishment with our fellow Lions and our community," said 3rd VP Gertrude Soong who incidentally is the Editor of the Club's SUARA MUTIARA.

Region 1 LEOS Joint Installation, 2010

Twelve LEO Clubs in Region 1 held a Joint Installation and Initiation ceremony on 5 September 2010 at the Chung Ling High School Hall in Jalan Air Itam, Penang. Twenty Five Alpha Leos the Leo Club of SMJK Sacred Heart in Balik Pulau, Penang together with their teacher advisor participated in this event.

Mutiara Lions attended this event in support of the Club's Alpha Leos were Zone 1 Chairperson Alan Cheah, District Chairperson May Cheah, President Tina Tan, 3rd VP Gertrude Soong and Alpha Leo Advisor Past President Anthony Goh.

Region 1 & 3 Leadership/Key Officer's Seminar 2010

In support of Region 1 activities, Mutiara Lions participated in the "Region 1 & 3 Leadership/Key Officer's Seminar, 2010" held on 31 August 2010 at the Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel, Penang.

Our Club's key officers namely President Tina Tan, Secretary Mark Labrooy and 3rd VP Gertrude Soong together with PDG Dato' Khoo Kay Huat and DC R. Ganeson attended the half day seminar.

The Club's IPP (ZC) Alan Cheah was one of the four trainers who conducted the seminar. PDG Dato' Khoo Kay Huat generously donated door gifts to all the participants of the seminar.
