Multiple District 308 District Trainer's Contest...

Presentation on Lions Orientation...
In conjunction with the 49th Multiple District 308 Convention in Ipoh, the 2nd Multiple District 308 District Trainer's Presentation Skills Contest was held at the Syuen Hotel on the morning of 30 April 2011.
Organising Chairperson, Past District Governor Sam Leong welcomed all participants representing the four sub-districts in the competition. Each sub-district was represented by a contestant in each category i.e. English and Mandarin. This year's competition saw seven contestants vying for honours as the best presenter in the Multiple District with four contestants in the English section and three in the Mandarin Section.

Immediate Past President (DT) Alan Cheah was accorded the honour of representing District 308 B2 in the English Section of the contest where he successfully emerged as the 1st Runner-Up. The final results of the contest was between representatives of District 308 B2 and District 308 A2 with 308 A2 winning the overall title and being Champion in the English Section and 1st Runner Up in the Mandarin section whereas District 308 B2 won the Mandarin Section and was 1st Runner Up in the English Section.
All winners of the contest received their prizes from Multiple District 308 Council Chairperson Wong Chang Wai witnessed by Organising Chairperson Past District Governor Sam Leong, judges and all Lions present at the contest.

Welcome to Penang...Lions from District 410B, South Africa.

Mutiara Lions hosted visiting Lions  from the Lions Club of Standerton and Lions Club of Alberton, District 410B, South Africa when they made a two day stop over in Penang on 17 May 2011 to a fellowship dinner at the Happy Gardens Restaurant in Batu Feringghi, Penang.
The South African Lions, were accompanied by our sister club members Past President Shirley Koh and Lion Lynda from the Lions Club of PJ Metro. Incidentally both PJ Metro and Standerton are sister clubs too.
The six lions from Lions Club of Standerton were led by their President Les Parkes and his lovely wife Phyllis whilst Zone Chairperson Johnnie Dicks and his lovely wife Beverly were from the Lions Club of Alberton.
It was an evening of great fellowship amongst Lions from four different Clubs at a restaurant owned by a Lion (Lion Sherine Lim from Penang Gold Coast).
At the end of the dinner President Les Parkes thanked the Penang Lions for their kind hospitality, friendship, fellowship and invited them to visit South Africa in two years time when the Standerton Lions would be celebrating their 40th Charter Anniversary.

FY 2010-2011 District Awards...

The 49th Multiple District 308 Convention was held in Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan from 29 April to 02 May 2011.
Mutiara Lions who attended the Convention were President Tina Tan, Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat, Zone Chairperson Alan Cheah, District Chairperson May Cheah, District Chairperson R. Ganeson, Past President Emery Cheah, Charter President Danny Lim, Lion Mark Labrooy and Lion Ed Kiew.
Lions Club of George Town Mutiara capped another successful year of service when the Club and members were recognised and conferred awards by District Governor Hudson Hah during the District 308 B2 Fellowship Dinner held on 01 May 2011 at the Excelsior Hotel in Ipoh.
At the Convention, Past District Governor Dato Khoo Kay Huat was appointed as Nomination Chairperson for District 308 B2, whilst District Chairperson May Cheah organised the Lioness' Forum and Zone Chairperson Alan Cheah participated in the 2nd Multiple District 308 District Trainer's Presentation Skills Contest and was a facilitator at the Multiple District 308 Key Officer's School.

LCI Worldwide Induction Day...

WELCOME ... New Mutiara Lions!!
In conjunction with Lions Clubs International's Worldwide Induction day on 09 April, 2011, the Club inducted two new Lions and welcomed a transferee into its Den.
Four new members and a transfered member were registered with Lions Clubs International for the month of April but only twonew members managed to attend the Induction ceremony conducted by Club stalwart Past Council Chairperson Allan Cheah Cheng Wah at the Vistana Hotel, Penang.

The Club welcomed newly inducted Lion Charles Goh and Lion Yeow Chin Chuan (a former Past President of the Club who had finally returned) and transfered member Lion Nehru Ayakanoo.
The Hi-Tea event was well attended by some sixty Lions, friends and family members. There was a talk on energy saving and also a Lions quiz for all attendees. Prizes for the quiz were sponsored by Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat another stalwart of the Club.
The Club also celebrated its official Charter Anniversary (13 April 1988) and the birthdays of those born in April which included Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat.

Melvin Jones Fellow...

During the official visit of International President Sid L. Scruggs III to District 308 B2, Malaysia, Lions were encouraged to make their contributions of USD1,000 to the Lions Clubs International Foundation so that they could receive their MJF Pins and Plaque personally from the International President.
President Tina Tan was one of the forty odd contributors to the LCIF and she received her MJF Pin and Plaque from International President Sid L.  Scruggs III at the Banquet in honour of the International President's visit to District 308 B2.

Meeting the President Elect...

The Club's Council of Past Presidents (COPP) held a lunch meeting on 23 March 2011 at the Everyday Supreme Restaurant (Red Rock Hotel), Jalan Macalister, Penang to discuss club matters and at the same time officially welcome the club's incoming President for fiscal year 2011-2012, Lion Mark Labrooy. The meeting was chaired by COPP Chairperson Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat and was well attended by twelve Past Presidents of the Club.
The COPP traditionally meets the club's President Elect after club elections are held to determine the club's future leaders. The meeting was also to welcome a new member to the Council in out-going President Tina Tan.

International accolades for Lions Club of George Town Mutiara

LCI's Excellence Club Award
HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS ... The Lions Club of George Town Mutiara and its members received no less than five International accolades this fiscal year. The Club was awarded the Lions Clubs International Excellence Club Award for FY 2009-2010 whilst Immediate Past President Alan Cheah was awarded the Lions Clubs International Excellence Club President Award (FY 2009-2010).
During the recent visit by International President Sid Scruggs III to District 308 B2 in February, Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat was conferred the International President's Leadership Medal whilst District Chairperson May Cheah was awarded the International President's Certificate of Commendation during the International President's Banquet.

Immediate Past President Alan Cheah was also awarded the "International President's Certificate of Commendation" when he was presented the award by Past International President Kajit Habananda during the District 308 B2 Fellowship Dinner held in conjunction with the 49th Multiple District Convention in Ipoh recently.

Club Leadership for fiscal year 2011-2012

Members of the Club elected their leaders for the next fiscal year 2011-2012 in March 2011.
The new team comprises of President (Elect) Lion Mark Labrooy, Secretary (Elect) Past President May Cheah and Treasurer (Elect) Past President Ann Khar as the key principal officers.
Other Board members are Lion Monica Sio (1st Vice President); Lion Gertrude Soong (2nd Vice President); Lion Ed Kiew Boon Leng (3rd Vice President); Past President Quah Bah Aik (Tamer); Past President Alan Cheah (Tail Twister); 2 Year Directors are Past President Emery Cheah; Lion Nehru Ayakanoo and Lion Charles Goh whilst the 1 Year Directors are Past Council Chairperson Allan Cheah, Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat and Charter President Danny Lim.
The new team will assume office effective 01 July 2011.
