Education Projects...

The  LOGOS HOPE, the world's largest floating library is in town, berthed at the Swettenham Pier, Penang.
The ship will be in port for a one month period. The Lions Club of George Town Mutiara will be bringing one hundred (100) primary school children on board the ship on Saturday, 27 August 2011 for a tour of the ship besides witnessing a cultural performance by the crew and also to visit the library. Organising Chairperson of this project is Lion Peter Koay and members are requested to meet at the entrance of the pier by 3pm that day.


The 2nd project with the ship and crew is the setting up of a library at the Rumah Kebajikan Sri Cahaya (Sri Cahaya Welfare Home) in Permatang Damar Laut, Batu Maung, Penang. This project will be carried out next month with the support and assistance of the crew of the Logos Hope.

Youth Exchange Programme...


Youth Exchangee RYOGA KONDO from Nagoya, Japan was hosted by LCGTM's 3rd Vice-President, Lion Ed Kiew from 01 August until 17 August 2011 in Penang.
Ryoga attended the Club's 2nd Business Meeting cum Social held at the Stone Bay Restaurant, Penang on 11 August 2011. In addressing the Lions and guests at the meeting, Ryoga expressed his thanks and appreciation to Lion Ed Kiew and his family for showing him the sights and culture of Penang and was grateful of the opportunity to visit Penang.
Later, Ryoga presented his foster family a beautiful japanese scroll painting and in return Lion Ed Kiew presented him a batik shirt whilst President Mark Labrooy presented Ryoga with a Club T-Shirt and cap. Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat presented Ryoga with his personal pin.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LIONS...


Mutiara Lions celebrated the birthdays of three members born in the month of July during their first Business Meeting cum Social on 11 July 2011 at the Stone Bay Restaurant, Penang.
The birthday boys and girl were... Past President May Cheah (04 July); Past President R. Sethupandian (01 July) and Past President Joe Quah (22 July).
After the wish making, candle blowing and cake cutting, members joined in the karaoke singing session to serenade the three birthday celebrants.

HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS...


To three Mutiara Lions whose services and contributions to the State and Community were recognised when they were confered Penang State Honours and Medals in conjunction with the 73rd Birthday Celebrations of our beloved Tuan Yang Terutama  Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tun Dato' Seri Utama (Dr) Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Abbas on 09 July 2011.

Past President R. Ganeson and Lion Kon Ted Liuk were conferred the DARJAH JOHAN NEGERI (D.J.N.), whilst Past President Emery Cheah Mei Ling was conferred the PINGAT JASA MASYARAKAT (P.J.M.) respectively.

Obituary...

It is with deep regrets that we announce the demise of Mdm. Cheah Eng Sooi, beloved mother-in-law of Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat today. Funeral is scheduled on Monday, 08 August 2011 at 1100 hrs. Cortege will depart cubicle "D", Batu Gantong Funeral Parlour, Penang.
The Club membership extend's their deepest condolences to Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat and Datin Loo Kuai Hong on their bereavement.
