"Cat City" in the "Land of the Hornbills" was the destination of Lions from Multiple District 308 when they attended the 50th MD 308 Lions Convention hosted by District 308 A2 in Kuching, Sarawak from 19-22 April 2012.
President Mark Labrooy led seven Mutiara Lions to this convention. Mutiara Lions accompanying President Mark were Past Council Chairperson Allan Cheah Cheng Wah, Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat, Past President Alan Cheah Teik Cheng, Past President Emery Cheah, President-Elect Ed Kiew and 2nd Vice-President Lion Gertrude Soong.
It is said that attending the Lions Convention is not all about obtaining District Awards, it is more about Lions rekindling friendships, enhancing bonds of sisterhood alliance and most importantly making new friends. So it was with us. Mutiara Lions had a wonderful time bonding with their sister lions from the Lions Club of Kota Budaya (B1), Singapore Fort Canning (A1) and Petaling Jaya Metro (B2) whilst making new friends with the Lions Club of Lutong (A2) and many others.
At the District Convention, Lions Club of George Town Mutiara was awarded five(5) district awards viz Best Club Bulletin & E- Bulletin, Outstanding Club President (President Mark Labrooy), Outstanding Club Secretary (Past President May Cheah), Outstanding Club Treasurer (Past President Ann Khor) and District Lion of the Year (Past President May Cheah). Past District Governor Dato' Khoo Kay Huat was awarded the International President's Certificate of Appreciation.
Surprisingly though, the Club's numerous service projects including the "Alleviating/Feeding the Hunger" project in support of LCI's Global Action Campaign was not worthy of district recognition.
One wonder's why??? Could it be an oversight, or... ???
Nevertheless, WE SERVE...
